Anatomy of the Workflow Editor

  • Interface used when creating and editing Workflows
  • Navigate to Workflow > Workflow Editor

This example shows the Workflow Editor after a Workflow has been selected. When it is first launched, the editor opens with the Welcome page that provides three List display filters.

  • Select Published to view a list of published Workflows
  • Select Checked Out to view the list of Workflows checked out to the current user
  • Select Help to view the links to ServiceNow Help Resources for Workflow
  • You can also select the New Workflow button from this page as well

Canvas tabs - tabs for accessing Workflows. Multiple Workflow can be open at once.

Title bar - displays Workflow name, status and controls for configuring, testing and validating.

  • Workflow Actions: open the Workflow's Context menu
  • Workflow Properties: opens the Workflow's properties
  • Start: runs the Workflow. Only available for tables in the Global scope. To test Workflow in a private scope, insert a new record meeting the condition of the Workflow you are testing
  • Validate: detects potential problems that can prevent publication or cause the Workflow to fail
  • Help: opens Workflow documentation

Canvas - editor for creating new or editing existing Workflow

Palette - contains the Workflow and Core tabs. Additional tabs and activities are available if Orchestration is active.

  • Workflow: list of existing Workflows. Select the Add Workflow (+) icon to create a new Workflow
  • Core: list of Workflow Activities

TIP FROM THE FIELD

You can use the Type filter text field at the top of the Pallete to quickly locate items. Without returning to the Welcome tab, begin typing Checked out in the field on the Workflow tab and the list will filter to only display the Workflows currently checked out by you.
